Taking on the Legacy Challenge: A Swiss Insurance Business Case

Report Published by Celent

When making the decision to replace their legacy systems, insurers should take a global view of the business case.

In a new report, Taking on the Legacy Challenge: A Swiss Insurance Business Case, Celent describes how the Swiss insurance company Les Retraites Populaires decided to replace its policy administration system, including how it addressed the main business and IT challenges.

"It is important to take advantage of a policy administration replacement project to review the basics around business processes and their impact on the organization’s culture," notes Nicolas Michellod, senior analyst with Celent’s insurance group and author of the report. "Through the usage of modern tools and strong partnerships, Les RP is confident that it has created the right systems to meet its needs in a manner that will prove cost-effective in the long run."

This report describes the strategic reasoning that drove Les Retraites Populaires’ decisions, in addition to discussing the implementation process and the main attributes of the system implemented: the project roadmap, the implementation methodology, and the functional architecture and technology. A short description of the product definition functionality is also provided.

This report makes observations in terms of business case management, the choice to build the application with an external partner, the role of offshore development capabilities, and Les Retraites Populaires’ long-term view in terms of a development partnership.

The 34 page report contains 13 figures and 5 tables. A table of contents is available online.
