Biometric technologies have attracted much attention over the last few months as consumers as well as businesses become increasingly concerned about security breaches and the repercussions of identity theft. According to Christine Barry, Celent analyst and author of the report, "Finger scanning has met with the greatest success to date in terms of number of deployments, but several other biometric options are also worth exploring. Financial institutions should evaluate their applications, user base, and budget to choose the biometric device that best fits their needs."

The biometrics space is crowded, with more than 200 companies competing for business. "As the industry emerges from infancy, the vendors most likely to survive will be those that continually upgrade their technologies, enable easy integration with other devices, best meet the needs of the marketplace and, most importantly, deliver on their promises."
